Abbotsford Juniors Football Club offers a range of free introductory and specialised paid football skills development programs to its members. These are open to all AJFC playing members and are primarily offers through the Winter Football Season running from April to August and the pre-season from February to March.
Skills Development Training (PAID)
AJFC will offer three (3) paid football skills development programs to AJFC junior and youth members in 2025. AJFC Football Academy members have priority access to these programs but the training is available to any AJFC player in their relevant age group.
Our skills training is designed as a companion program to compliment AJFC Football Academy team members regular team training. Players are expected to continue to train with their coach(es) where game training, team and positional play will be a focus. Participation in paid skills training is always optional in addition to regular team training and is subject to player registration and the payment of any fees.
Academy Football Skills Training
Our AJFC Academy Football Skills training program works toward the continued development of our Academy team players and their four core football skills – Striking the Ball, Running with the Ball, First Touch and 1v1. The program will offer a 14-week term of 1 hour training sessions to be conducted weekly with breaks for school holidays. Training sessions will involve high repetition skill exercises ensuring participants maximise their touches and involvement with the football.
The key elements of the 2025 program are:
- 14-week program (with breaks for school holidays) of 60 minute weekly training sessions
- Open to Academy players from Under 8 to Under 13 teams
- Separate sessions for Mixed (Boys) training held on Thursday; and Girls training held on a Tuesday
- Led by AJFC’s football training partner Futboltec and their qualified, experienced coaches

Goalkeeper Skills Training
AJFC’s Goalkeeper Skills Training program is focused on providing a skills development opportunity for those AJFC junior and youth players who regularly act as a goalkeeper for their teams and who are motivated to improve their goalkeeper play in this position. Training sessions through the season will cover all aspects of goalkeeping including positioning, movement, diving, ball distribution, passing and striking the ball.
Training sessions will be 75 minutes duration with appropriate warm-up and warm-down activity. Sessions size will also be capped to 12 participants to ensure the effectiveness of the training. The Club may elect to offer an additional session times should participant demand exceed the session size limit.
The key elements of the program are:
- 14-week program (with breaks for school holidays) of 75 minute weekly training sessions held on a Thursday evening
- Open to Boys and Girls aged 8 to 14 years
- Led by experienced goalkeeper training partner – Chris Marques (GKU Academy)

Striker Skills Training
AJFC is pleased to re-introduce our Striker Skills training program for junior and youth players as part of our football skills development offering for the 2025 Winter Season. Sessions will cover all aspects of striker play including ball striking, positioning, movement, ball distribution and 1st touch.
The key elements of the new program are:
- 14-week program (with breaks for school holidays) of 60 minute weekly training sessions held on a Tuesday evening
- Available to AJFC players (boys and girls welcome) aged 8 to 14 years
- Led by AJFC’s football training partner Futboltec and their qualified, experienced coaches

Skills Development (Introductory/Free)
AJFC will offer a number of introductory football skills development programs to AJFC junior and youth members in 2025. These programs are planned for the Winter preseason and while they are open to any AJFC member who registers, they are particularly focused upon those members who are new to football or starting as a player for the first time in 2025.
Girls – Intro to Football Skills Session(s)
These sessions will provide an introduction to the four (4) core football skills – Striking the Ball, Running with the Ball, First Touch and 1v1.
Key training elements include;
- Timing TBA – exact times to be confirmed each year
- Girls aged 8 to 14 years
- Age group appropriate introductory basic skills training
- 1 hour session per week over a 4 week period
Boys and Girls – Intro to Goalkeeping Skills
These sessions (one for boys and one for girls) will provide AJFC junior players with an introduction to the basic skills required to act as a goalkeeper. As the role of goalkeeper is rotated through . The sessions cover the goalkeeping aspects of hand position, catching, goal position and striking the ball.
Key training elements include:
- Timing TBA – exact times to be confirmed each year
- Boys and Girls aged 7 to 12 years
- Restricted numbers (max 18 participants) per session to maintain effectiveness
- 1 x 75 minute session
