Registration for the 2026 WINTER SeasoN
IS NOW OPEN
Important Information about Player Registration
- Registration for the 2026 Winter Season with Abbotsford Juniors Football Club (and all other Clubs in the Football Canterbury Association) has changed. Player registrations will be completed in the national PlayFootball online registration system managed by Football Australia and Football NSW.
- AJFC strongly recommends all players, parents, carers and guardians wishing to register for the 2026 Winter Season review our Guide to PlayFootball Registration before commencing registration.
- Players should upload a new passport style photo each year during registration to avoid issues with old or out of date photos when playing
- Multiple player, coach and manager registrations can be made through a single PlayFootball Account (a separate account is not needed for each registration). For example, a parent who plays and manages their children’s team, can register themselves as a player, a manager and also register their children from a single account and email address.

Step 3 – Link your child’s participant record
If your child has played football before with AJFC or another Club, AJFC recommends linking your family member’s participant record to your PlayFootball account prior to attempting registration.
Instructions on how to invite (link) a family member’s participant record to your account can be found at PlayFootball – How to Invite a Family Member.
Step 4 – Complete Player Registration

Instructions on how to complete a registration can be found at PlayFootball – How to Self Register as a Participant.
Note – Selection of the correct Age Group
Please ensure that you register your child in their correct age group. Under the Football Canterbury Association competition rules, Junior and Youth player age groups are based on the age a player will turn during the year, regardless of which day or month of the year they are born.
For example, a player born on 20th March 2014 will turn 12 in 2026 and so the player should be registered to play in the Under 12 age group.
Quick Instructions for Adult Player Registration
Step 1 – Confirm TEAM space is available
Players looking to join an AJFC Adult team should contact the Club Registrar at registrar@abbotsfordjuniorsfc.com.au prior to registration. Team managers will be consulted about the team composition and playing roster for the coming year before new registrations are accepted.
Step 2 – create a PlAYFOOTBALL Account (LIKELY TO BE required for a 2026 Registration)
If you do not have an account from a previous football registration, you will need a contact email address to create a new account.

Instructions on how to complete a registration can be found at PlayFootball – How to Self Register as a Participant.
Note – Selection of the correct Age Group
Please note that player age groups under Football Canterbury Association competition rules are determined differently for adult players from juniors and youth players. An adult player’s eligible age group is determined by the age they are at the 1st January of the playing year.
For example, a player who is 44 years old on 1st January 2025 but turns 45 on 15th January, is NOT eligible to play in an Over 45 age group competition.
Winter season player registration requests will be submitted to Abbotsford Juniors Football Club for final review and acceptance. Players will receive an email on confirmation of the acceptance of a registration by AJFC. This email will provide information about sourcing playing kit and the AJFC approach to team formation.
Returning Player Cut-Off Date – Saturday 15th February 2026
The “Early Bird Discount” date is also the cut-off date for returning AJFC players to complete their registration to ensure their participation and inclusion in their team from last year. Player registrations after this date will be prioritised on a first come, first served basis and a place in the team is NOT guaranteed. Full registration fees will also apply after this time without exception.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the player registration fee cover?
The player registration fee is made up of a number of fees levied by football governing bodies and AJFC:
- Football Australia fee;
- Football NSW fee and insurance charge;
- Football Canterbury Association player;
- AJFC Club fee;
The AJFC Club fee helps to cover the operational costs of the Club. This includes council field hire and lighting costs, provision of team training kit (balls, bibs, cones, poles and goals), match day playing kit, ground and field equipment (e.g. nets, flags), fees for coaching and referees’ courses, team registration fees, and the general administration costs of running the Club including the provision of trophies and awards.
Abbotsford Juniors Football Club also makes a substantial donation to St John’s Ambulance each year for their provision of St John’s First Aid Officers for all of our home games.
What do I need in terms of playing kit and how can I get it?
Players require football boots and shin-pads for training and play. New to Abbotsford Juniors players are provided a voucher to order a free pair of shorts and socks from the Club’s Online store. Player jerseys are provided by, and returned to the Club each season via the team’s coach and manager. Please see the AJFC Playing Kit page for more information on how to obtain your playing kit.
Can I register and play in more than one team?
No. Football NSW and Football Canterbury Association rules prohibit players from registering with more than one club and/or more than one team during the Winter Season. While AJFC understands some players would like the opportunity to play more football, we cannot accept multiple registrations for a single player.
Can my child play with their friends in a specific team?
Yes, with some restrictions. AJFC is aware that many players who are new to football are often invited to play with their friendship groups or previous team-mates. AJFC allows parents to nominate friends and/or a team they wish to play with during registration. Wherever possible, Abbotsford Juniors will do its best to support this participation. This cannot be guaranteed. The Club will advise the child’s parent/guardian where this is not possible.
Please note that this is not possible for AJFC Academy (Division 1) teams where team formation is through Club-organised trials and selection.
How do I know which age group as a player, I or my child will be in?
Junior and youth football players qualify for their age group based on the birthday they have during the calendar year of play. For example, a player who has their 10th birthday during 2026 will generally play in a team in the Under 10 competition but is unable to play in an Under 9 competition.
Adult football players qualify for teams based upon their age at the start of the year. For example, a player who is 34 at 1st January but is turning 35 during the year, would be able to play in an All Age team but not an Over 35 team.
How are new and existing players assigned to a team
The approach that AJFC takes to team formation and assignment of players to our teams can be viewed at AJFC Team Formation.
Does AJFC provide financial hardship assistance?
Yes, AJFC does consider financial and other hardship situations. The Club may offer the option of a payment plan or waive a portion of a player’s registration fees where it is found that someone is in genuine financial need. Applications for assistance should be submitted to the AJFC Registrar for assessment.
If I decide to withdraw after registering, can I get a refund?
The process for refunds has changed significantly with the introduction of registration via PlayFootball. The AJFC Refund Policy sets out the way in which Abbotsford Juniors Football Club deals with a request for refund of a player registration fee.
